Dix-septièmee concert des VOISINS / The NEIGHBORS Seventeenth Act

Video and Sound installation / performance based on material collected in St Henri.
To gather material for this project I began by following habitual walking routes through the neighborhood, wandering away from these routes guided by sounds and visual material that caught my attention. Special attention paid to color, pattern, shape and wide variety of sounds in my ordinary surroundings has been used to generate a collection of samples.Map drawings of each route records it’s shape, which becomes rough guides for shaping video and sound.
Additional sound samples have been generated in studio based on color, shape and texture taken from recorded images.
Experiments with different playback systems as well as live processing are also been explored.
When I moved to this neighborhood over 10 years ago I felt completely out of place, as if I were in a new city. Gradually, I became habituated to this environment and got to know some of my neighbors. St Henri is now my “home base”.  This work is an attempt to explore an embodied experience of place, guided by the senses.
